At our practice, we will always strive to help you maintain your optimal oral health. This includes looking for any abnormalities or concerns in the soft tissues of your mouth, as well as your teeth. Patients are also encouraged to do a self-examination every month to check and see if anything looks out of the ordinary. If you happen to notice any abnormalities in your mouth or throat, we encourage you to call us to schedule an appointment. Such abnormalities may include:

• Difficulty or discomfort when chewing or swallowing.
• A constant sore throat or chronic hoarseness that does not go away.
• Any change in the color or texture of your gums, cheeks or tongue.
• Sores in your mouth, or on your face or neck, that have not healed after two weeks.
• A lump or thickening of tissue inside the mouth.
• Red, white, or speckled red-and-white patches inside your mouth.
• A change in your oral alignment that causes oral appliances to fit imperfectly.

These signs can suggest a pathological disease, such as mumps, salivary gland disorders, odontogenic infection or even oral cancer. We suggest that you call our office if you notice any of these symptoms. We can also check for any signs during your regular appointment.
